Do I HAVE to have a food processor to make Falafel?

All of the recipes that I find for falafel say to use a food processor to coarsely puree the mix for falafel. Some even go so far as to say it must be a steel blade. I don’t have the money for a decent food processor at the time, but want to make falafel. Will it come out ok if I mix and blend by hand instead of in a food processor? Any suggestions?

no just use canned chickpeas and a potato masher or ricer.
yummm i love falafel!
good luck, don’t forget the yogurt!
it doesnt have to be a food processor, you can use your blender, it works just as well, all though it seems to need more liquids to move about as easily as a food processor. I use my blender for everything the same as i would a food processor.
if you dont have that either than just make sure all the pieces are cut up or mashed up well and mix, itll be fine they never had these tools in the original days the recipe was made.
no suggestions you can just mash it with your hands though. Its the same thing.
ps. thanks for the 2 pts! ♥
You can buy falafel mix in a box in the international section of some grocery stores. Also places that make falafel will sometimes sell you by container their mix by the pound and you can deep fry falafel balls at home .
I don’t know where you are from, but I live near an Israeli bakery and I have done that and it tasted deliscious. I also bought the pita from them. You can make your salad that you stuff around the falafel balls and also hummous from mashed chick peas and seasonings. It’s making me hungry!!!
At work we use a mixer with the paddle attachment.
