cool tutorial, I was curious how the new version was coming along, looks like it might take some getting use to. I used a similar process in 249b to put a tatoo on a model. Interesting to see how it works in 2.5, thanks for sharing as always.
They have posted alpha 2 now becasue alpha 1 had a bug causing it not to save textures.
@lzura You should download 2.5 because it doesn’t have an installer you can just make a new directory anyplace on you hdd and copy the files into it, then It wont affect your 2.49 build.
The internal renderer is faster, theres partcle smoke and all the usual stuff, im using 2.49, i have tried 2.5 twice, i think its quite good but ide say you might aswell stay with 2.49 until 2.6 at the most but i wouldnt fully switch right now.
Hey man. just wanted to Thank you for the videos. they been really great at leatting me get my bearrings in blender. glad to see you do more.
one qurestion: since i got Blender 2.49 a month ago and now i seem to be getting the hang of it. i been reluctant to isntall the 2.5 alpha (been follwing your vids) so is there any particular advantage ,other than the UI, that i should know about?
2.49 is an stabile veriosn whith all of the belnder tools…
2.5a1 is an optimization anc cleanup of the 2.49 whith some new sweet tools.. like render optimization.. but its stil in alfa so not all “old” functiond arent optimized

agreed, good insight
Software cycle is: Alpha, Beta, sometimes Gamma, and then release.
Alpha = incomplete and unstable. Features are in the process of being added/removed/changed
Beta = Features are stable, most of the program works as expects, bugs are to be expected, crashes and data loss can happen
Gamma = pre-release, almost good to go.
Blender 2.5 is in Alpha 2. Good to use to learn the new UI but don’t use it for production work.
Hope this helps.

@bogieman987 2.51 wont even download for me, so i am waiting til’ 2.5 is actually done instead of just being in a whatever it is
God knows they needed a UI overhaul… one that makes sense.
I might even start looking into it again now… although I’ve given up on it many times.

yeah, that was one of the goals of the overhaul, to make it more usable for the people migrating from 3ds max and maya.

Gotcha, thanks.
It looks a lot like the 3ds max interface now, in a way.
I’m an avid Cinema4D user, but I like watching your vids to keep up.

it’s the blender 2.5 alpha, you can download if you like from blender (dot) org/download/get-25-alpha/
Wow, the UI looks a LOT better than the Blender I know…

Is Blender 2.49 pretty much the same as Blender 2.5?
Another great tutorial!
Was wondering where you’ve been
